This part- the one where you plot and plan the books you want to read during a readathon – might be my favorite part of any readathon. For this #24in48 ‘thon, it’s a little more difficult than it has been in the past because the vast majority of my books are packed away. (Edited to add: the readathon goes from 12:01am on Friday, Aug. 2nd to midnight on Sunday, Aug. 4th. See original post here.)
And because I’m also going to try to participate in the Dog Days of Summer readathon the weekend of Aug. 17th, for which I’m planning on reading nothing but YA novels, I have to choose adult books for this one. A personal distinction, but a distinction I’m making for my own sanity/enjoyment nonetheless.
For the ‘thon this weekend I’m choosing mostly books that have a particularly strong summer theme (though I’m definitely not limiting myself to it). The weather here in the DC area this weekend is going to be in the low to mid-80s – a phenomenon that just DOESN’T. HAPPEN. in August. Because of that, I’ll likely to do a big chunk of reading outside, either on the porch (hello, outdoor ceiling fans) or by the pool. Last year, I was staying inside because the oppressive DC heat made air conditioning an absolutely necessity.
So here’s what’s on my list for this weekend:
Instructions for a Heatwave by Maggie O’Farrell
The Yonahlossee Riding Camp for Girls by Anton DiSclafani
The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer
Countdown City by Ben H. Winters
The Other Typist by Suzanne Rindell (I started this one a while ago, and for one reason or another, got sidetracked and never went back to it.)
Obviously, I’m also going to read a bit of The Secret History since the readalong starts on Sunday. (JOIN US, WHY DON’T YOU?) And I probably won’t be able to keep myself away from the YA because it’s my go-to for mixing things up when the adult stuff gets a bit heavy.
I know I posted a Mr. Linky on my first 24 in 48 post, but I really hate the way it makes you go to another window. So if you’re planning on joining (AND YOU SHOULD), won’t you fill in this linky instead?
