I apparently suck at writing posts that I’ve committed to other people I’ll be writing. Sorry, fellow The Secret History readalong-ers. I promise you’ll get a half-way mark post on Sunday, as promised.
Last week, I hadn’t even cracked The Secret History, but right now, I’m about 135 pages in. And I’m loving it – but I’ll save my text reviews for Sunday. For now, you’ll get the glorious first line that makes Tartt’s novel so fantastic. If this isn’t a first line to beat all others, I don’t know what is.
The snow in the mountains was melting and Bunny had been dead for several weeks before we came to understand the gravity of our situation.
Even if I hadn’t been committed to this readalong, that first line would’ve grabbed me and made me keep reading anyway.
So, what are you reading this weekend?
*I’m still going to try to participate in the Dog Days of Summer Readathon this weekend, but considering the weather here in the Mid-Atlantic is actually…dare I say it…chilly, I may be less dog day inclined.
Seriously, look at this! What kind of sorcery is this?
Though I suppose that kind of weather does make one more likely to read outside like a normal human person. A hammock may need to happen.
I hope you are enjoying equally as lovely weather, wherever you are, this weekend. Have a good one, friends!
